Okay, so, today there was this 5 hours marathon of The Powerpuff Girls in Cartoon Network, I only got to watch the last 2 and a half hours, tho. Still, it brought to me many memories, and I can say it´s definitely one of my most favorite cartoons. The jokes, the cameos, the refferences...The episode of the Beat-Alls was one of the best!
After the marathon they premiered the special episode called, The PPG: Dance Pantsed.
This episode was made by CGI, with a "renovated" look...When I watched the trailer some months ago, I thought it was one of the most hideous things I had ever seen in my life...But I didn´t want to criticize it without watching it.
Now that I did, I can criticize all that I want and say it was AWFUL. Starting by, everything cool by starring the original voice actors (it also includes Ringo Starr as a guest), but neither McCracken (the creator of the show) nor Tartakovsky (who influenced and worked a lot during the production along with Craig) worked on this particullar special (they´re both busy with their own proyects). So then, without McCracken only, Cartoon Network should´ve done nothing. Turning a cartoon with such a bidimensional and minimalistic style to CGI isn´t visually pleasing, especially if the characters desings are so modified and changed like they did.
The script is dreadful, the animation clumsy, and it´s full of cheap jokes.
It ended up being something without right or backwards, like if they couldn´t decided for something specific.
It was horrifying...I hope they´ll never do it again, and I hope it falls to oblivion, for the good of the original series and movie.
Did you watch it? If you didn´t, don´t do it...But if you did, what did you think about it?
